Recognized by Animation Magazine’s staff in 2005 as the best proposal for a new animated property, Maggers and Ripley have also been seen in a sneak-preview mini comic that debuted at Wizard World Chicago ‘07. Currently, Shea and Josh, the manchildren who make up Strange Type Studio, are working on a children’s book showcasing the loveable pups.

A character-driven buddy story, Maggers & Ripley follows the adventures (and misadventures) of an odd couple of canine ‘sisters’ as they match wits and go paw-to-paw with their neighborhood nemeses: the conniving French opossum, Jean-Paul Jorge Ringot, and the barely-domesticated big cat, Steve (A.K.A. Big Steve, “The Round Mound of Chow Down”).

Maggers & Ripley

"The only thing more annoying than a little sister is a little sister five times your size"

“The only thing more annoying than a little sister is a little sister five times your size”

Beware of (uncontrollable adoration of) Dogs

Maggers & Ripley is a vibrant, light-hearted take on an age-old situation: the sibling dynamic. Maggers, a small dog, is accustomed to her place as “the lady of the house” in a home with a single father and his two teen sons. She is very particular and likes to keep the house in order and the family operation running smoothly.

When her owner, Ned, brings home Ripley, a hulking 6-month-old stray, Maggers must learn to coexist with the high-energy behemoth. Ripley ― clumsy, awkward and always inquisitive, sees every experience as a grand new adventure and idolizes her new “big” sister.

When the more refined Maggers is not nursing Ripley-inflicted bumps and bruises, she begrudgingly learns to appreciate the benefits of being a big sis: power, influence, and an adoring companion who is many times the physical size of her arch-nemeses, Big Steve, the neighbors’ bullying cat, and Jean-Paul, a troublesome French opossum.
